Longfield is a small family farm located
near Albany, New York. We produce grass-fed lamb, wool and artisan breads. We are committed to sustainable
pasture management and humane animal husbandry. Our animals are hormone-free and only receive antibiotics when sick. Our
chickens clean the barn, so we use less parasite medication. Our farm and home are solar powered and our pastures absorb
more greenhouse gases than all of our animals and farm operations produce.
Our Breads-- We bake sourdoughs and yeast breads. Many of our breads
are baked in a wood-fired, beehive oven. The ingredients in our breads are from local sources whenever
possible: The flour is milled on our farm or in New York. Eggs usually come from our own hens. We sweeten
with local honey or maple syrup (never with refined sugar). Most of the seeds in our breads
are organic; some are grown right on the farm.
Our Wool -- We sell
white and natural colored Romney, Shetland and rare Leicester Longwool fleeces and rovings -- perfect for
handspinners. Our Romney Fleece took the Prize for Best White Fleece at the NY State Sheep & Wool Festival in 2010.
We ship anywhere. Call or e-mail us for pricing.
Our Lamb --
We specialize in custom cut, whole lamb. Our lamb is grassfed from start to finish.
Because of our sustainable pasture management practices and the use of a rare, metabolically efficient breed, our
lambs finish at about 85% of the size of grain-fed lambs, but with the healthy attributes associated with grass-fed meats. Your lamb will arrive in October or November, cut to your specifications, cryovac packed
and frozen. We are currently taking orders. Please call, if you would like to order a lamb or if you have
questions -- (518) 861-5280.
Free Range Chicken -- Our chickens live in a chicken
tractor that is moved around our pastures, to help process what the sheep leave behind. They go outside every day and they
get strong and healthy. They return our care and stewardship by producing superb meat.
